Karime Hassan MBE
Independent Member since August 2023
Karime has undertaken a number of roles connected with the city of Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø for 23 years. Most recently, he was the Chief Executive and Growth Director of Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø City Council (May 2013 – March 2023) where he worked with partners across the city to develop Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø’s economy and vision for a healthy, inclusive and sustainable city. Karime was instrumental in overseeing the Council’s Passivhaus building programme and advancing the city’s sustainability goals with the establishment of Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø City Futures Community Interest Company.

He was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire for services to local government in the Queen’s New Year Honours in 2022.
Karime is a Fellow at the Centre for Leadership at the Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø Business School and was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø in 2019. He also holds a BA (Hons) in Town and Country Planning from Trent Polytechnic and an MSc Industry and Public Planning Policy from Loughborough University.
